1-2-5-Climb! Fonteintjiesberg

We had a great time in the Hex River Mountains. We were a party of twenty, ranging in age from 82 to 29. The combined age was 1195 years and the average was just under 60. We all stayed in the Thomas hut over the weekend and we all went to the Summit of Fonteintjiesberg (1981m) on Saturday morning. All twenty of us summitted together, including Bill and Di Turner, aged 82 and 78. Unfortunately the clouds and mist did not clear, so we missed a spectacular view.

On the way back to the hut, ten of us detoured to the summit of Brandwag Peak.

Back in the hut Bill celebrated his birthday by passing around a small jerrycan of Snake Bite. The next day was Shaun's 36th birthday. We walked back to the cars in bright sunshine. We will go back for the view on the occasion of the Club's 150th Anniversary.

There were sixteen South Cape Section members and four guests. Leader Greg & Cheryl Devine, Bill & Di Turner, Tony & Evie Bowen, Janine Smith NM, Karin van Niekerk, Stewart & Christine Stiles, Charl du Plooy NM, Saartjie & Albert van der Merwe, Wim van der Merwe NM, Maretha Alant, Werner Frei, Charles Smith, Werner Illenburger, Zeta Michau, Shaun Devine NM.

A hearty thanks goes to Worcester Section for the use of their hut.
